Birdathon, bandathon is set for May 13

Riveredge Nature Center’s annual spring birdathon and bandathon will be held from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 13.

Participants may come for a hike and look for and listen to as many species as possible. Binoculars are recommended.

People may also watch the experts at the banding stations as they mist-net resident songbirds and then band them. Signs will direct people where the stations are at Riveredge.

Those attending will also discover how information from the banding provides estimates of the number of resident and migrant birds at the center.

People may also sign up to join a team for the official count through the Noel J. Cutright Bird Club.

Anyone  who wants to attend the event to observe the banding is asked to contact Al Sherkow at al@sherkow.com.

People who want to participate in a birding team are asked to contact Carl Schwartz at cschwartz3@wi.rr.com.
