Big schools rule the pool in relay meet

North Shore Conference schools with larger enrollments finished ahead of Port Washington and Grafton in the girls swim and dive relay meet last Thursday in Port.

Grafton scored 33 points for seventh place and Port scored 14 for eighth of eight teams. Cedarburg won with 95.

The Black Hawks took second in the 100-yard freestyle relay. Maddy Hillner, Annika Korb, Allison Garncarz and Olivia Konzen combined to total 51.37 seconds.

The Hawks took third in the 200 freestyle relay. Elaine Proefrock, Garncarz, Grace Hahm and Konzen finished in 1:46.32.

The 400 medley relay team of Proefrock, Garncarz, Makenna Slaminski and Hahm took fifth in 4:45.89.

Grafton took two sixths: the 50-100-150-200 freestyle team of Emily Lutz, Konzen, Hillner and Lizzy Snell finished in 5:41.17, and the 100-50-50-100 butterfly team of Proefrock, Slaminski, Hillner and Korb finished in 3:23.7.
Port took four sevenths.

At the Plymouth Panther Invite last Saturday, the Pirates had 25 time drops with an average of 2.5 seconds per drop. Port still ended up last of eight teams but doubled its point total from last year, scoring 109.

Sturgeon Bay won the meet with 474 points. Plymouth was second with 436.

Sydney Hannert had the best showing, with a fourth place in the 100 butterfly in 1:10.8 and ninth in the 500 freestyle in 6:27.1.

Kamryn Lapacek was seventh in the 100 freestyle in 1:03.12 and ninth in the 50 freestyle in 28.18.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Erin Grisar, Caroline Hadacek, Sarah Howell and Hannert was ninth in 4:44.78.

Port was scheduled to swim against the West Bend Co-op on Tuesday and at Grafton at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2. Grafton swims at a Cedarburg invite on Saturday before hosting Port.

Nicolet tops Grafton in volleyball

Nicolet came back to beat Grafton in volleyball last Thursday, 19-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-23.

For the Hawks, Neala Luedtke had 18 kills. Josephine Gust had 37 assists, and Selena Esparza had 35 digs. Esparza added three aces. Luedtke had a block.

The Hawks were scheduled to play at Cedarburg on Tuesday, at an Oostburg invite on Saturday and to host Hartford at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Port goes 1-2 in home tournament

Port Washington won one and lost two in its home tournament on Saturday.

The Pirates beat Heritage Christian, 17-25, 25-17, 25-15; and lost to 17-25, 25-22, 15-7; and Brillion, 25-15, 25-11.

Port was scheduled to play at Slinger on Tuesday, in an Oostburg invite on Saturday and to host West Bend East at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Ozaukee wins a handful of matches

Ozaukee went 2-1 in a quadrangular meet at The Prairie School on Sept. 18. The Warriors beat Port Washington, 17-25, 25-22, 15-7. They beat Heritage Christian, 26-24, 27-25; and then lost to Campbellsport, 25-16, 25-23.

Last Thursday, the Warriors beat Kohler, 25-20, 25-22, 25-19.
 

Sydnie Stadler had nine kills and eight aces. Izzy Clark had 13 assists. Emily Janowski had nine digs. Abby Miller added five kills.

 Ozaukee hosted Sheboygan Christian on Tuesday and hosts Hilbert on Thursday.

Rockets go down at Big East foe

Cedar Grove-Belgium’s volleyball team was swept at conference opponent Howards Grove last Thursday, 25-11, 25-13, 25-19.

The Rockets were to host Random Lake on Tuesday, Mishicot at 7 p.m. Thursday and host a tournament on Saturday.
