Animals add to the Port park program fun

Children participating in the Port Washington Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Park Program received a visit last week from a number of animals, including a turtle, that were brought to Kohlbach Park by Willow Brook Haven, a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and finding homes for animals. In return, the children made a donation to the organization. Recreation Director Kiley Schulte got in on the fun by holding a baby goose with a little advice from Jae Piepenburg and Jane Route of Willow Brook (above right photo). The animals’ visit gave Riley Pierringer an opportunity to sanitize balls and cones used by children, which has become part of the routine intended to keep children and counselors safe from the coronavirus (above left photo). Sixty-three children are enrolled in this year’s program, which ends this week.        Photos by Sam Arendt
