Abe Lincoln show among March events at Grafton library

A meeting of a new book club and a presentation by an Abraham Lincoln actor highlight the March events at the Grafton Public Library.

The book club — the first to be officially sponsored by the library in recent history — will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, in the upper level meeting room to discuss Rumaan Alam’s “Leave the World Behind,” a highly acclaimed story of two families forced together during a weekend gone wrong that has been made into a Netflix movie.

The library system has multiple copies of the book available for check-out.

On Wednesday, March 20, the library will host “The Political Lincoln: Honest Abe on Campaigns and Elections” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the lower level meeting room.

Playing the part of President Abraham Lincoln, Kevin Wood will describe his many interesting campaign and election experiences during a time of political intrigue and tumult.

Registration is not required.

The library will also host a number of recurring events in March, including Knit Happens from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, in the upper level meeting room.

Library Director Amanda Kloppmann will lead a session for knitters of  all ages and abilities.

On Tuesday, March 12, reference librarian Karl Suechting will teach a Tech Tuesday session for beginners on using Chromebooks at the Grafton Senior Center, 1665 Seventh Ave., from 1 to 2 p.m.

To register, call the Senior Center at (262) 375-5311.

The library will host a writers’ workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 16, in the lower level meeting room.

The workshop is open to writers interested in novels and short stories, as well as fan fiction. The group offers encouragement and critique.

Registration is not required.

The Readers of the Night Book Club will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in the lower level meeting room.

The group will discuss Ann Patchett’s “Tom Lake,” a moving novel about family, love and growing up that was a New York Times Bestseller.

Wednesday, March 27, will mark the return of New Release Movie Night, which was paused because of the pandemic, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the lower level meeting room.

Viewers are welcome to bring snacks.
