Study to create a vision for ‘library of the future’

The Saukville Village Board contracted Milwaukee-based design firm HGA earlier this month to study the Oscar Grady library building and design a renovation, expansion or new building.

Library Director Emily Laws said the study, which will cost as much as $30,650, will identify areas for improvement in library services.

The specific areas of need, she said, will be determined through the study.

“The goal for the study is to determine library building needs as related to services for the community,” she said.

Community meal is Saturday in Saukville

The Ozaukee Food Alliance will host a community meal Saturday, Sept. 28, at its facility in Saukville at 100 E. Green Bay Ave.

In-person dining will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. with take-out meals available from 12:30 to 1 p.m.

The meal, provided by Vineyard Church in Grafton, will include pulled chicken sandwiches and salad.

  

Pawsitive Vibes group to aid young girls

Pawsitive Vibes, a free support group for girls in fifth and sixth grades, is being offered by Ozaukee Family Services.

The group will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays from Oct. 15 to Nov. 19 at the Ozaukee Campus of the Wisconsin Humane Society in Saukville.

The program will provide a positive, safe environment for young girls to learn about the importance of being kind to themselves.

Food Truck Frenzy to be held on Sept. 28

Ozaukee Food Alliance will host Food Truck Frenzy from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Grady Park in Saukville. The event, which benefits the Alliance’s food pantry, will feature eight area food trucks, two bands and children’s activities.

The food trucks, which will donate a portion of their proceeds to the pantry, are That Taco Guy, Carnivore Craig’s, Tots on the Street, The Cupcake-A-Rhee, Go Nutz Donuts, On the Block Burgers, La Empanada LLC and Chubby Bunny Boba.

Food may be eaten at the park or carried out.

Saukville’s finances ‘solid’ but challenges loom

The Village of Saukville is in a “solid” financial position with ample liquidity, strong enterprise operations and unused tax levy capacity, according to a financial management plan presented to the Village Board last month.

The plan noted, however, that the village is expected to tap its remaining levy capacity and face a deficit by 2028.

Children’s winter coat drive runs to Sept. 23

A children’s new winter coat drive is being held through Sept. 23 to benefit Family Sharing.

Coats most in demand are those sizes large through extra-extra large and adults sizes small and medium.

Coats may be dropped off at the Feith Family Ozaukee YMCA in Saukville.

Saukville church to host craft, bake sale

Parkside Community United Church of Christ in Saukville will host a fall vendor, craft and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28.

The event is an opportunity to support local artisans, find one-of-a-kind items and enjoy homemade treats.

USPS workers suspected in ‘check washing’ scheme

A 20-year-old Chicago man has been charged and authorities believe U.S. Postal Service employees were involved in a “check-washing” scheme that resulted in the theft of $58,000 from a Saukville company.

Last summer, multiple checks issued by P.D. Peterka and Associates were stolen from the mail and “washed,” a process in which the name of the payee and the amount are changed.

A book vending machine? It’s all the rage at Saukville Elementary thanks to $5,000 donation.

Saukville Elementary School may not be the newest or most high-tech school around, but it has one of the latest devices intended to promote reading — a book vending machine ­— thanks in large part to a $5,000 donation from the Ozaukee County chapter of 100 Women Who Care.
