LETTER: To be better informed, voters need to listen Fox, Limbaugh

To Ozaukee Press:

When are the people of this country going to wake up and see what is going on
in Washington, D.C.? This question is for all the low-informed voters who only listen
to the mainstream media.

There is mass corruption going on in the government, and so many people go along with whatever the news media wants you to hear. You need to take your blinders off and listen to alternative news. Yes, that means Fox and conservative talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh, so you can at least hear a different view.

LETTER: Disrespect for the president is disrespectful to his supporters

I have family members who are veterans and family serving our country right now. The writer of the letter to the editor in last week’s Ozaukee Press that said President Trump shows no respect for veterans should take a history lesson and look up all that he did for our vets. I would like to list all that he has done, but the letter would be too long.  

LETTER: Vaping is threatening young lives; raise buying age to 21

To Ozaukee Press:

Medical experts, concerned parents, students and school officials from across Wisconsin testified last week in support of Assembly Bill 422, legislation to increase the legal sales age for all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, from 18 to 21 years of age.

Health experts described the devastating consequences of tobacco and e-cigarette use and how so many of their high school-aged patients want to quit but are struggling with nicotine addiction.

Donations from the Ozaukee chapter of the Great Lakes Sports Fishermen (GLSF) and Saukville Walmart employees and the Walmart Foundation have provided equipment for the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office rescue boat. A gift of $1,000 from GLSF was used to buy inflatable life jackets for the rescue boat crew, including its two K9 members. At the check presentation were (from left) crew member Ray Meyer, Sheriff’s Cpl.

They moved in as soon as the boats moved out for the winter. They enjoy fishing and lounging on marina piers. They are cute and fairly exotic for these waters, butalso, according to marina staff, a bit messy.  They are otters, and they are now residents of the Port Washington marina. LETTER: Do the math: choice schools are a bargain for taxpayers

The front-page headline in last week’s Ozaukee Press, “School choice comes at a cost to PW-S school taxpayers,” strongly implied that the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program is a drain on taxpayers. To the contrary, the story’s facts support the opposite conclusion: The government-run school district is a drain on taxpayers.

LETTER: Jack Janik: a well-spoken man worthy of a Shakespeare quote

Wonderful compliments to Jack Janik in last week’s Ozaukee Press from many people who knew him well. Because of Jack, God rest his soul, and his very supportive family, especially his wife Louise and his two sons, Dave and Chris, the National Flag Day Foundation in Waubeka is a site that draws people from all over America to celebrate National Flag Day in Waubeka.

Because of Jack Janik, this event seems to be growing bigger every year.

LETTER: District didn’t have to raise levy to cover loss of students

The article about voucher school costs in last week’s Ozaukee Press was highly misleading. The district received $460,000 less in state aid simply because it isn’t educating those children anymore. That loss happens whenever students move out of the district too. State money follows the student.

One day the branches of the gingko trees along Franklin Street in downtown Port Washington were covered in leaves turned brilliant gold. The next day the branches were bare. Gingkos are known for the delicate fan shape of their leaves and their unique ability to drop all of their leaves at once after a hard frost. Ozaukee Press reader Louise Mollinger of Port Washington photographed the leaves in their moment of glory and the bare branches they left behind.

On Saturday, Oct. 26, my family and I participated in an activity in Port Washington that I hope will become a tradition. An ice cream cone, candy corn, an ice cream sundae, an Oreo cookie and a Reese’s peanut butter cup—members of my “sweet family”—made their way through downtown Port Washington. It was a perfect day for trick-or-treating, and we enjoyed ourselves as we went store to store, watching other families having fun and searching for the bucket holding the treats.
