Preliminary plans in place for 2018-2019 after demolition of GES

The Grafton School District released its proposed 2018-2019 attendance boundaries for Woodview and Kennedy elementary schools at Monday’s School Board meeting.
New boundaries are needed after voters approved an April referendum that calls for the demolition of Grafton Elementary School.
“These are preliminary plans. We still need to figure out where future development will take place in the town and village,” Supt. Jeff Nelson said. “We made a promise to have a plan set for next school year and we’re on pace to do that.”
Woodview Elementary School’s proposed boundaries include Cedar Sauk Road to the north, between Maple Road and the East Sauk Road and Highway 32 intersection.
The boundary to the west runs west of Maple Road and First Avenue between Cedar Sauk Road and Washington Avenue. Fieldstone Drive and Butternut Lane are also in the attendance zone.
The southern boundary includes the north side of Washington Avenue west of First Avenue to Cheyenne Avenue. It also covers the east side of Cheyenne Avenue to Falls Road. The boundary then goes east on Falls Road to Lake Michigan, including south of Lake Bluff Lane.
The eastern boundary is south of Lake Bluff Lane along the lake, north to south of Stonecroft Drive, and runs west of Stonecroft Drive north to the intersection of East Sauk Road to Highway 32.
For Kennedy Elementary School, the northern boundary is proposed to include the south side of Washington Avenue between Audubon Avenue and the west side of Cheyenne Avenue.
The boundary to the west goes east of Audubon Avenue and south to Pine Ridge Court. The boundary cuts between Pine Ridge and Chateau courts to the south of First Avenue. It will continue south on First Avenue to west of Green Bay Road to West Pioneer Road.
West Pioneer Road from east of Cedar Valley Drive to Lake Michigan is the proposed southern boundary.
The boundary to the east runs from Pioneer Road along Lake Michigan north to south of Lake Bluff Lane. It runs west to Port Washington Road and north along Port Washington Road from Lakefield Road, west of Shasta Avenue and the subdivision to Falls Road. All of Port Washington Road from Lakefield Road to the north is Woodview’s attendance area. Crossing Falls Road to Cheyenne Avenue includes the west side of Cheyenne Avenue north to Washington Avenue. The east side of Cheyenne Avenue is Woodview’s attendance border.
Grafton Elementary School will be demolished in August of 2018 after the construction at Kennedy and Woodview is complete, which is part of the district’s plan for its school facilities project.
The district plans to finalize the consolidation of students and teachers of Grafton Elementary School before September to ensure a smooth transition for the 2018-2019 school year.
Administrators will study student population areas and consult with GO Riteway, the district’s busing provider, to determine class sizes at the two elementary schools and to allow for efficient student transportation, according to the district.
