Scott Callies of Port Washington knew how to make a delicious steak and took good care of his mother and mother-in-law.
Mr. Callies, 45, died Saturday, Nov. 18, in his sleep of natural causes while up north at deer camp with his sons.
Mr. Callies was born Sept. 3, 1972, in Milwaukee to Thomas and Cathy List Callies. He grew up in Saukville and attended St. Peter’s Catholic School in Port Washington, now part of St. John XXIII schools. He graduated as asalutatorian of Messmer High School in Milwaukee.
On July 22, 2000, Mr. Callies married Cara Schmidt at Immaculate Conception Church in Saukville. The couple settled in Port Washington and raised their family.
Mr. Callies was an iron worker for years and a member of  Iron Workers Local 8, before he focused on taking care of his mother’s home in Saukville and mother-in-law’s house in Port, and he and his wife’s rental property in Cedar Grove.
After professional landscapers redid his mother-in-law’s yard, Mr. Callies quickly learned how to take care of all the new plants, his wife said.
“It was funny walking downtown one day, he said ‘Oh, that’s this kind of plant and that’s that kind of plant,’” his wife said. “Six months ago he wouldn’t have known what a hosta was.”
Mr. Callies was quiet and enjoyed being a fly on the wall, his wife said. He knew his way around the kitchen and enjoyed watching cooking shows.
“He could cook a really good steak. A lot of times he pan seared the steaks and put them in the oven,” his wife said.
Mr. Callies enjoyed fishing and hunting with his sons, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and spending time with his two huskies Kari and Davy Jones.
Mr. Callies is survived by his wife, Cara; sons Zach Dommer of the Town of Belgium and Derrick Callies of Port Washington; mother Cathy Callies of Saukville, grandmother LaDonna List of Marinette; mother-in-law Lora Holst of Port Washington and father-in-law Greg (Rhonda) Eisold of Wauwatosa.
He is further survived by brothers- and sisters-in-law Jesse (Katrina) Pycha-Holst of Madison, Bridget (Eric) Roberts of Brown Deer and Brian Eisold of Milwaukee,
He was preceded in death by his father Tom.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 27, at the Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington. Father Richard Fleischmann will preside.
Visitation will be at the home from 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, until the service.
Memorials are suggested to meet future educational needs for his sons.
