Gerald Wessel, 79, of Grafton, died on Oct. 21 after a battle with lymphoma.
Mr. Wessel was born in Grafton on Jan. 3, 1938 to Norma and Arnold Wessel.
He married Rose Buschel on June 19, 1965. The couple enjoyed many adventures camping at the Dells, snowmobiling at the Newwood cabin, and golfing at the “cottage.”
In 1958, Mr. Wessel began his career at Grafton Service, where his love for cars was reflected in the excellent service he provided. He joined the U.S. Army Reserves in 1960.
According to his family, Mr. Wessel was ahead of the curve as a dad. He was an engaged dad and on many afternoons his children would walk from Kennedy Elementary School to Grafton Service and “help” their dad until it was time to go home for dinner. He enjoyed his family and there were many parties in the garages of family members and neighborhood friends enjoying brats and beer.
He spent every Tuesday with his brother playing golf at Hawthorne Hills Park in the Town of Saukville, followed by dinner and a few beers at NoNo’s in Newburg.
Mr. Wessel spent many hours with his grandchildren tinkering together in his workshop, crushing cans and playing with toys together. He spent many afternoons shuttling his grandchildren home from school when they were sick, to friends’ houses, to work and to the farm.
Mr. Wessel loved NASCAR, golf, country music, Fords, beer, Tanquery martinis, puzzles and most of all, his family.
Mr. Wessel is survived by his wife Rose of Grafton, children Tricia (Ron) Wessel-Blaski of Cedarburg and Jeff of Milwaukee.
He is further survived by his grandchildren Jack, Alexandra and Arabella; and sister Carol.
The celebration of Mr. Wessel’s life will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17, at Pilgrim United Church of Christ in Grafton.
Visitation will be held at the church from 4 p.m. until the service with dinner at the Church to follow.
The family has suggest memorials to Pilgrim United Church of Christ Mission programs.
