Vincent Weyker

Vincent J. Weyker of the Town of Port Washington died Thursday, Aug. 1, at the Harbor Club in Port Washington where he had lived the past three years. He was 91.

Mr. Weyker was born to Peter and Clara Strauss Weyker on May 3, 1928, on the family farm on Highway KK in the Town of Port Washington.

He graduated from Port Washington High School in 1946.  On Oct. 15, 1949, he married Sylvia L. Watry of Fredonia at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Washington.

For more than 18 years, Mr. Weyker worked at Harnischfeger Homes in Port Washington, building prefabricated homes. When it closed, he began working at Simplicity Manufacturing Co. where he was maintenance foreman for 26 years, retiring in 1991.

Mr. Weyker was a good-hearted and hard-working man, his son, John, said.

“He always had time to chat with people, especially some Luxembourgish with old friends,” he said.

“He enjoyed his Luxembourg heritage. He used to say, there are two kinds of people — those are Luxembourgers and those who wish they were.”

Mr. Weyker and his wife enjoyed dancing and playing cards. They were members of the “We Love to Dance Club” and the “Wisconsin Polka Boosters.”

They also spent many winters in Winterhaven, Fla., where they had a home.

“They had friends from here who went down but they also had many friends who were snow birds from all over the country there,” his son said.

“My dad was friends with everybody. He was a very outgoing person.”

Mrs. Weyker died on Oct. 8, 2011.

Mr. Weyker is survived by his two sons John (Janice) of the Town of Port Washington and Randy (Debbie) of Port Washington; his grandchildren Jared (Danieli Bianchini) Weyker, Kristina (Mike) Van Roo, Melissa (David) Wollbrink and Eric (Emily Johnson) Weyker; six great-grandchildren; his sister Angie Burton; and brothers-in-law Ronald Mueller, Herman Schuh and Peter Kultgen.
