The new logo adopted by the Village of Belgium is being spread across the community in places large and small, short and tall.

The village’s south water tower last month was painted with the logo just in time for Luxembourg Fest, Pat Wester of the Public Works Department said.

The project took a couple of weeks to complete. First, the water tower was painted and then the logo was added.

“Painting the logo took a couple days longer than anticipated due to a couple of rain days,” Wester said.

Suez Utility Services of Oconomowoc handled the job, hiring a crew from Louisiana to paint the tower and one from Mississippi to do the logo.

The cost to paint the 43-foot-long logo in two locations on the tower was $16,334, which was covered by rental fees from cell phone companies that mount their equipment on the village’s water towers, Wester said.

“The logo cost increased slightly because they had to enlarge the size of our tag line in order to read it,” Wester said.

The village has a service agreement with Suez to maintain the towers, including cleaning, repairs and painting, the last of which is scheduled to happen every 10 years.

The new logo also appears on village letterhead and on a wall serving as a backdrop to trustees during Village Board and committee meetings.

The board chose the logo in March. It was the product of a collaborative effort between University of Wisconsin-Green Bay student Micalah Taylor and graphic designer Sherry Smies.

The Belgium Area Chamber of Commerce paid $90 to develop the logo and a similar version for its organization.
