For an unknown reason, the Blazer entered the east shoulder of Highway I, before re-entering the roadway. It then rolled over several times and Monson was thrown from the vehicle. He was the lone occupant.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Portions of Highway I were shut down during the investigation. It reopened at about 3:45 a.m.
