Park to host Fall Festival of Birds

Harrington Beach State Park in the Town of Belgium will hold two days of events during its Fall Festival of Birds.

All activities are free with paid admission to the park.

“Attracting Birds to Your Backyard” will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, in the Ansay Welcome Center.

Dan Panetti, owner and operator of Wild Birds Unlimited in Mequon, will share strategies to attract birds. Panetti lives in Port Washington and has served on the Milwaukee Audubon Society and the Pineview Wildlife Rehabilitation Center boards for years.

“Avoiding Bird-Window Collisions” will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, in the Ansay Welcome Center.

Chuck Hagner, director of Bird City Wisconsin, will share tips to keep birds safe. Hagner was editor-in-chief of BirdWatching magazine from 2001 to 2017.

Bird walks and family activities will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, near the Ansay Welcome Center.

Guided bird walks begin at 8 a.m. and people may visit the shorebird watcher along the lakefront and enjoy bird-oriented activities. Light refreshments will be available.

Other upcoming events at the park include observatory telescope viewing by the Northern Cross Science Foundation near Puckett’s Pond at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 4 and 5.
