The Niederkorn Library in Port Washington will reopen Monday, April 27, but only for curbside pickup.

However, pickup will be limited to materials the library has on hand.

“We can’t do holds from other libraries,” Library Director Tom Carson said, noting that materials can’t be transferred between facilities at this point.

Patrons may use the library website to search for items available in the building and place a hold on those things they want to check out, to a maximum 10 items.

They should designate the Niederkorn Library as the pickup point.

The library staff will notify patrons via telephone or email when their items are ready to be picked up.

“It may take longer than usual,” Carson said, noting the library will be operating with limited staff in order to observe social distancing.

When patrons are ready to pick up their items, they should call the library to let the staff know. Patrons need to have their library bar code number available when calling.

The staff members will place the items in a plastic bag and leave it on a cart outside the library doors, where patrons can pick it up. The bags will be labeled with the last two letters of patrons’ last names and the last four numbers of their bar code.

“The goal is no person-to-person contact at all,” Carson said.

The library at 316 W. Grand Ave. will otherwise be closed to the public, he said.

Patrons are asked not to return library materials at the carts, he added.

The library will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
