Lois G. Ward

Lois G. Ward was an accomplished needleworker who particularly enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

She made numerous items not only for her family but also for others in the community. The lap robes she made for members of her church who were ill were particularly appreciated, her daughter-in-law Lynda Ward said.

Mrs. Ward died early Friday, March 3, at her Port Washington home. She was 91.

Mrs. Ward was born in Sault St. Marie, Mich., on March 24, 1926, the daughter of Andrew and Maggie Mae McComb Portice.

She attended L’anse High School in L’anse, Mich., then moved to Milwaukee to attend business school.

In Milwaukee, she met Frank Ward. The couple married in Milwaukee on Sept. 16, 1950.

In 1963, the couple moved to Port Washington, where Mrs. Ward worked as an executive secretary at FMC Bolen’s Corp. She retired in the early 2000s.

Mrs. Ward was a member of First Congregational Church in Port Washington and the city’s Senior Center, where she was active with the Chicks With Sticks needlework group.

She enjoyed playing bridge with a card club and at the senior center, her family said.

She also enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ward is survived by her son Kevin (Lynda) of Port Washington, granddaughter Dana (Keith) Pegelow and four great-grandsons.

She is further survived by her brother George (Jan) Portice of Twining, Mich., and sister-in-law Beverly Portice of Chesterfield Township, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank; daughter Gail, brother John Portice, sister Donna Scarpace and brother-in-law Phil Scarpace.

A funeral service for Mrs. Ward will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, at First Congregational Church in Port Washington. The Rev. Jeffrey Suddendorf will officiate.

Visitation will be at the church Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m.

Burial will be in Holden East Cemetery, Port Washington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society are suggested.
