LETTER: Trump’s plan to end payroll tax will be death of Social Security

To Ozaukee Press:
     When Social Security legislation was signed in 1935 by President Franklin Roosevelt, he predicted no future president could alter promised benefits due to the designated payroll tax.
     Yet President Trump recently announced his intention to eliminate the payroll tax in his second term. Apparently the 12.4% that workers and their employers contribute isn’t needed to fund the program; he would fund the entire Social Security plan with excess funds in the discretionary federal budget. That suggestion is ludicrous because the numbers don’t add up.
