Jeanette Sedlar

Former Port Motel owner Jeanette Sedlar, 94, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, at her home in Milwaukee.

“She was a wonderful mother and wife. She was totally committed to her faith,” her son Jerry said.

Mrs. Sedlar was born in Milwaukee on April 23, 1925, to Joseph and Josephine Matuszak.

After her husband Anton “Tony” Sedlar died in 1977, she raised her family of eight children alone. Her family said she was a determined woman who got her driver’s license at 47 so she could attend services at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Washington and to provide transportation for her children.

She owned the Port Motel from 1968 to 1981.

Mrs. Sedlar enjoyed polka dancing, music and cooking. The church was a source of her strength and she prayed the rosary frequently, her family said.

Mrs. Sedlar is survived by her children Paul (Janet) of West Bend, Gloria Sedlar of Kewaskum, Jack (Marcia) of Milwaukee, Mary Sedlar of Sheboygan, Jerry of West Bend, Daniel (Patti) of Kalispell, Mont., and Tony (Denise) of Milwaukee; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband and son Thomas.

A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, on Tuesday, Aug. 27. Father Patrick Wendt presided.

Interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Port Washington.

Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington, handled the arrangements.
