But Plan Commission on Monday may set terms on Advanced Restoration’s move to Community Center

The Belgium Village Board on Monday approved an ordinance change that would allow Advanced Restoration to move into the former Belgium Community Center.

At a public hearing before the meeting, one resident voiced concerns about equipment storage becoming an eyesore, given that the building is in the middle of the village and visible from nearby Community Park.

Jordan Dimmer, who plans to buy the Town of Port Washington company from his father Dan at year’s end, said he is willing to put in a fence or small berm to help with aesthetics.

Village Board President Vickie Boehnlein said the ordinance change “creates a conditional use, nothing specific to that property.”

The amendment allows industrial and agricultural uses in the B-2 Community Business District.

The company still needs a conditional-use permit to operate in the former community center. The Plan Commission will discuss the permit Monday night at 7 p.m.

Dimmer said he plans to store equipment at the back of the building, install two service doors and fix the roof.

Port Washington State Bank, which owns the property after foreclosing on it, has accepted Dimmer’s purchase offer.

Advanced Restoration has done projects such as the Port Washington Light Station and St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Veteran Affairs Hospital in Milwaukee. Much of its work is done in Sheboygan and Milwaukee.

The company has 14 employees and is expected to expand next year, Dimmer said. It is currently headquartered on about five acres of Dan Dimmer’s 80-acre farm on Highway KK.

The village planned to send letters to neighbors of the center about the conditional use-permit and Monday night’s Plan Commission meeting.
