Banking associate moved family of seven to village last year

The Village of Belgium filled its open trustee position on Monday and the board is now back at full strength.

Andy Ohlson was the only one to express written interest in the seat, which opened when Trustee Vickie Boehnlein was appointed village president after Richard Howells resigned for personal reasons last month.

Ohlson moved to the village from Ashippun early last year with his wife, Amy, and their five children in age ranging from 14 years to 9 months.

“We chose Belgium because of its proximity to Lake Michigan (Harrington Beach and Port Washington) and Milwaukee and have been happy with the schools and family friendly community,” Ohlson said.

Ohlson served on the Town of Ashippun Planning Commission for six months before moving to Belgium. He said he attended monthly town board meetings and wanted to get involved in his new community.

“I’m looking for community service,” he said.

Ohlson works as a commercial banking associate with BMO Harris Bank in Milwaukee. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in finance and economics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He has spent six years as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

The board unanimously approved Ohlson to fill the term, which expires in April 2017.
